Twin Voices
[From The Rosicrucian Digest March 1946]
When I was just a small child, I had a dream which has kept me thinking ... In
the dream there was a strong voice within me, and I called that voice, Soul.
There was an equally strong voice without, which I called Life. For a
while the two voices, which were both quite beautiful, argued painfully. Soul
wanted me to devote myself to meditation and worship; Life insisted that
I be sensible and gain all the knowledge along worldly lines that I could
possibly receive. Both had their points and I was confused and bitter. Then a
voice with a quiet, deep resonance interrupted softly and said, "Life,
reach in, join hands with Soul. Soul, reach out, join hands with Life." I
felt within me a deep surge of understanding, and I called the gentle voice God.
